Chronic Pain: The sneaky little side effect that is an invisible but always around creature.
I live in persistent chronic pain/numbness from the surgery (no fault of the surgeon, it’s the scar tissue effect) around my right arm/side to remove lymph nodes, and the best funny thing I can think to say about it is that I now have “invisible friends” called “pain and agony” that live with me. This section is one that I’m hoping more of you can really send in the jokes. (Canshare)
I finally thought of a joke to say about it!! Woo hoo!! I said my pain feels like an invisible squirrel is gnawing on my shoulder. I joked that I am going to call the invisible squirrel, “Chipper”. So, now when people ask how I am doing, I can say, “I am feeling Chipper.” Ha ha ha!! (Canshare/Dec 2011)
Hmmm, okay, how about, “Chronic pain, it reminds me I’m alive?” (Canshare/June 2011)
Tips on what works for me to be distracted from the pain, maybe it’ll work for you, too: Exercising, Dark Chocolate (70% and up), Music, Funny Television or Movies, Laughing, having fun with friends/family, and Sleeping (some of you may feel pain even when sleeping, sorry!) Anyway, thought I’d throw those out there. (Canshare/June 2011)
Peripheral neuropathy, sounds like you have trouble with your brain viewing things in the scope of vision. It’s not, it’s damage to the nerves in your hands and feet or other body parts from the drugs for treatment. My feet were most affected. I get numbness in the bottoms of my feet and electrical shock/ice water feelings in my toes. It’s a downer. I take a drug, called Cerefolin, helps with this, but it’s still a chronic pain many of us face after treatment. The best joke I can think to make out of it is for us to say, “I’m so excited about ____________, that my hands and feet are tingling!!!” (If you have an occasion to be excited about something.) So, that is the upside for having peripheral neurophathy, a joke about excitement. Ha ha ha!! (Canshare/June 2011)
