MRI, PET, CT (or CAT “old school” term), Ultrasound, MUGA, X-ray, etc, you get the picture, I mean, your doctor gets the picture………(we can even throw in here your doctor’s exam of your body at each visit)

The funniest thing said to me at one of my exams was when I told the nurse I wasn’t going to “look” when he stuck me with the I.V., he replied, “Neither am I.” with a big grin on his face.  I appreciated that one.  (Canshare/June 2011)

Nervous, at my first PET/CT scan, I asked the tech, “When you inject me with the contrast, will I turn purple and have my head spin around three times?”  He laughed and replied, “No.”  (Canshare/June 2011)

For the radioactive tests, you receive a “get out of jail free” card that, should you get scanned for radiation, prevents you from getting in trouble with the police for being a “criminal who is toting nukes around in their backpack”.  I say keep the card, flash it at people you’d like to scare a little and say either:  “Am I glowing?” or “Quick, turn off the lights!  I DO glow in the dark!!”  (Canshare/June 2011)

I don’t know what the MUGA acronym actually stands for, but it is the test in which your heart is scanned to be sure it can “withstand” the chemo hit.  I think it stands for My Uber Gigantic Aorta. (LOL, LOL, LOL, LOL, LOL, the sound of my laughing heartbeat, out loud.)  (Canshare/June 2011)

If you’ve never had an MRI, they are loud.  You get stuff injected into you for the “imaging” and are put into a narrow tube, some are “open”, but the best part is that during the whole exam you end up feeling like you’re hanging out downtown in the heart of a city, with some SERIOUS construction work going on around you, bang, bang, bang, clang, clang, clang……luckily you get a pair of earplugs, free, and you can even keep ‘em as a souvenier, yay!!  (Canshare/June 2011)
